While we’re searching for our next home, we became full-time traveling house-sitters. House-sitting allowed us to travel Mexico, and see 21 beautiful Mexican states, with the feeling of “home” and friendly animal companions. We didn’t intend to become house-sitters, but we enjoyed it so much. This was an experience we’ll always appreciate, and never forget! *** We’re in Japan *** We’re available forhouse-sits only within about an hour of Imabari / Omishima, in Ehime prefecture: the islands along the Shimanami Kaido; Imabari City, Matsuyama, Saijo area to the south; or Mihara, Onomichi, Fukuyama area to the north. This area would still allow us to be close enough to to complete the Startup Business Visa process in Imabari.

“Dani and Evan came to us as pet-sitters through friends of ours who chose them to care for their home with an impressive pack of dogs and cats. We have met many wonderful pet sitters through these friends. It seems that the responsibility of caring for so many live-in pets is an instant filter for finding sensitive and caring souls. Dani and Evan are all this and more. They were very adaptable in stepping up to accommodate the routine we have with our two older active dogs and cared for our home as we would.
Our dogs eat raw. We had prepped and frozen the food for our 6 week absence and spread it out in the freezers of friends and neighbours. They had a bit of a hunt picking up food from our neighbours in advance of the needs of the dogs. Dani and Evan were terrific at monitoring the feeding of our dogs – they always thought ahead and sent us notice of when the dogs were a few days out from needing the next round of food. When our prepared food ran out early right at the end of our trip they stepped right up and handled prep from scratch without hesitation.
One of our dogs has had a bit of trouble with a health problem which, even though she was stable, left us feeling a little nervous about leaving her, but Dani and Evan were as observant as I would have been. They regularly questioned us on things they were observing in their day to day experience with our animals – which gave us great peace of mind. They also easily stuck to the homeopathic treatment we have been using on our dog which was another point we felt unsure about leaving in the hands of other people.
This is a very capable couple who are not afraid to take on a little challenge or get their hands dirty. Our gardens were also well loved. Dani had a battle with windy season and raking up endless leaves in our small very treed outdoor space, but I feel pretty sure that she enchanted the garden. It has stayed wonderful ever since! “The Bentons house- and pet-sat for us for a little over a month. We have 8 dogs and 3 cats, all but 1 of which were rescued and adopted, so a number of them have anxiety issues. On top of that, we feed neighbors’ needy dogs in the street every evening, and they took over that job as well.
Dani and Evan really went above and beyond the basic caregiving duties for our pets. They were very in-tune to any little issue that came up (in terms of the animals’ mental and physical health), and it was clear from the start that our animals really responded well to their calm and loving personalities. They did a great job of walking the dogs everyday (4 dogs a piece!). They were able to easily resolve any problem that came up with the house or animals, on their own or with our help online. The house was in perfect order when we came home, and the animals all were clearly happy and well cared for. I’d highly recommend the Bentons for any house- and pet-sit if you can get them!”

“Dani and Evan house-sat for us for 5 weeks. They are amazing and we highly recommend them. Our cat (indoor and outdoor) went missing during their housesit and the effort they put towards finding him was above and beyond anything I expected, he was found thanks to their efforts and now is an indoor cat 🙂 Our older dog was diagnosed with cancer before they arrived and they took amazing care of him. The best thing is that Dani took a professional photoshoot of them. And knowing our dog will probably not live much longer, it is a great gift!”
